About Us

Culture, community & a whole lot of dhol

Punjabi Society of UNSW exists to share and celebrate Punjabi culture with the entire UNSW community — Punjabi or not. From Bhangra beats to butter chicken, we bring a little bit of home to campus and open the door for everyone to join in.

  • Inclusive for all. You don't need to be Punjabi to belong — just curious and keen to celebrate with us.
  • Engaging events. From cultural showcases to casual catch-ups, there's something for everyone all year round.
  • East & West Punjab. We celebrate the shared culture, language and history across the whole region.
What We Do

Our Events

Our events are built to be fun, cultural and genuinely engaging — whether you're coming for the food, the dancing, or just to make new friends.

Jaago and Sangeet Night — dhol players and dancing in traditional Punjabi outfits

Jaago & Sangeet Night

Our biggest cultural night of the year. We recreated a full Punjabi wedding on stage with a fake baraat — complete with live dhol, sangeet performances, bhangra and giddha. Members dressed up, danced all night and laughed even harder. It's an immersive, hands-on way to experience Punjabi wedding traditions, and everyone's invited to join the dance floor.

International Night Markets

Running our own stall at Arc's International Markets, we bring authentic Punjabi street food straight to campus. It's the perfect chance for the whole UNSW community to taste Punjabi cuisine, meet our members, and get a warm, welcoming introduction to our culture — no invite needed, just come hungry.

Culture Cafe

A relaxed hangout where members old and new come together over chai and snacks. Culture Cafe is our most laid-back event — dressed in traditional attire, we chat, connect and build genuine friendships in a casual, no-pressure setting. It's the easiest way to meet the crew and see what we're about.
